Mission:HOME
Mission:HOME is a Brighton & Hove campaign tackling family homelessness by transforming overlooked and unused microsites into sustainable, affordable homes.
The organisation needed a central website that could explain both the scale of the problem and its practical proposed solution. It also needed to centre the experiences of affected families, share Scarlett’s story and give supporters clear ways to become involved.
Working from the identity and creative direction developed by Bill Wallsgrove of Brandad, the project involved turning a new campaign into an accessible, hopeful and action-focused digital platform.
Mission:HOME needed to communicate a serious and complex issue without creating a website that felt bleak, political or overloaded with information.
Visitors had to quickly understand the human impact of temporary accommodation, how overlooked microsites could contribute to the solution and why the campaign deserved their support.
The site also needed to serve several audiences, including families, supporters, schools, journalists, partner organisations and decision-makers. News, campaign resources, events and future initiatives all had to fit within a structure that could continue growing after launch.
I developed a bespoke WordPress website with a simple, modern and family-centred design that balanced the seriousness of the subject with a clear sense of hope and possibility.
Working from the creative direction of Bill Wallsgrove of Brandad, I translated the visual identity into a responsive digital experience using strong sans-serif typography, high-contrast sections and bold campaign messaging.
The content was organised around the issue, Mission:HOME’s proposed solution, Scarlett’s story and the practical actions available to supporters. News, campaign updates, media resources and partner information were also incorporated into a flexible structure that can expand alongside the organisation.
Supporter sign-up, social sharing, analytics and search-friendly foundations were included, giving Mission:HOME a platform for building awareness and maintaining an ongoing relationship with its audience.
A later campaign for the proposed Cowley Drive development added a bespoke planning-support form. Visitors can provide their details, choose the arguments they support and generate a structured email to the South Downs planning authority. Mission:HOME receives a copy, while personal information is accompanied by a request for appropriate redaction.
Mission:HOME now has a distinctive campaign platform that explains its purpose clearly and gives people practical ways to support its work.
The website brings together the human story, the scale of family homelessness and a credible housing solution without losing the hopeful, action-focused character of the campaign.
Its flexible WordPress structure allows the organisation to publish updates, share resources and support new initiatives as its work develops. The Woodingdean campaign demonstrates how the website can also be extended beyond awareness, helping supporters participate directly in a live planning process.
